Winterized Alcohol Stove Test 1 |
The following pages show the modifications I made to a "Photon Stove", which is a homemade ultralight alcohol stove that many long distance ultralight backpackers use. They have no moving parts to break, and are extremely quiet, as well as being clean and odorless.
It's really quite a bit of fun making one, a great project on a chilly night. No fancy tools are needed, although a few speciality items like high-temperature epoxy and tiny needles will be needed to construct one properly. To learn how to make the Photon Stove itself, please visit Don Johnston's Photon Stove page, or take a look at the other links I added on this page.
Basically all I did was add an insulating base and spacer pad for a Photon type stove which can be used with a small foam pad directly on snow. I added a modified MSR windscreen which can be anchored in windy conditions that would otherwise blow it about.
